UPDATE:
Here's what you need to know: it has a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 (yes, seriously) with more than 600 horsepower and is going into production in late 2016.
I know it is moving with the times but I am a little conflicted it won't have a classic V8 roar. I really really wanted it to have the engine out of the GT350. I just hope the engine has character.

TT-V6. I'm ok with that. I was a little surprised about how low the HP. I mean 600 will still rip your face off but you can get more in a family sedan.

I haven't been this excited for a reveal in a long time, but c'mon, Ford. Arguably the single car in Ford history most associated with a snarling V8 has a V6 in it? Pretty disappointed in that little detail.
Complaining aside, that is the hottest looking car by any automaker since the last GT. Retro is there, but they brought it into the 21st Century. Again. Bravo!

I think the excess power in cars today is a little crazy. I think 600 will be excellent for a well balanced car. Just look at the 458

This car was designed perfectly. It is like you said both retro and modern. I know it will be an excellent car but that engine is cause for concern (at least until they drive it and decide it is amazing and perfect.)

My MKT has the same engine. Therefore, it's now a supercar.

They're boasting the power to weight ratio so we'll see how skinny they can get her.

That is how I feel about my dads old F150 with the 5.4 in it!

Ecoboost is the top engine in the Taurus, most Lincolns, and their F150 trucks. Ford is trying to push Ecoboost as a viable alternative to V8 engines, plus I don't think Ford could get 600 reliable horses out of a naturally aspirated V8. Plus, just imagine the untapped potential from two turbos on a V6 mill.

No v8? No problem, just roll down the windows and let the augmented reality engine noise out.

What has the world come to? Europeans rocking big V12īs and V8īs while Americans are putting small displacement, high strung V6īs in their supercars (hypercars?). Itīs madness I tell you!!!

I know ecoboost is the future and it was a smart marketing move by Ford. But why not slap the GT350 engine in the Ford and stick a coupe turbos on it and call that an ecoboost? Still have the marketing but with the classic V8 layout.

If you would have told me Ford was doing this 10 years ago I would have laughed at you and told you that you were insane!

You can't just slap two turbos on a flat-plan high compression engine designed to be naturally aspirated. People keep forgetting that each GT is a different car that pays homage to the original.
Hell, why not put a pushrod V8 with 271hp in it and call it a day? That's what the first GT40s had in them.

I would have been perfectly fine with whatever engine was in the GT350 without modification honestly. But I won't be buying it so my opinion does not matter.
I understand it pays homage to the original however, when the rest of the competition uses a V8 or V10 I wonder how the V6 will preform against them. But someone did mention the Jag has a 6 as was excellent so I am sure the GT will be too but I still think it was a risky decision Ford made.

It sort of brings to mind what everyone thought when the GT was first made a production car, and the engine they chose was the Supercharged V8 from the F150 Lighting. I really feel like they're stepping up their game by showing what the same engine can do in the new Raptor and the GT. The little blue oval has some innovative steps for sure, and balls.

I too was wishing that it would have a crossplane V8. Boost or not I don't like V6 engines very much. I would have even preferred an inline 4 with really high amount of boost.
But I'm not going to buy one regardless what is powered with...

I am getting less and less worried about it but still blows my mind they were gutsy enough to do it.

Why can't we just have more money to buy it?

Right? And I thought V8's with FI for a supercar was ballsy...

Yeah, it's going to be quite expensive.
The rear end actually looks quite nice. Those headlights could replaced with something nicer.

I think TT V6 engines have proven themselves in performance applications, plus the engine should be a great challenger to any V8 or V10 on the market within the same HP figures.

You'd take a Turbo-4 over a Turbo-6? What messed up crack did I find in Detroit this morning that this makes any sense??

I don't care that it doesn't have a V8, deal with it. I just hope it sounds good on the OUTSIDE. Ecoboost engines aren't the best sounding cars out there, I know that for a fact.

If Ford plans to take it racing with this engine than the V6 is fine otherwise it should have has a V8. I just hope they make the turbos should as excellent as they do on the Huayra.

I'm not saying turbo-4 over turbo-6 but inline turbo-4 over turbo-V6. I can't help I just don't like V6 engines. Inline 6 and boxer 6 are completely different story.
DTM V6 engines from 90's are an exception though. They rev so high that a negative becomes a positive.
